The concept is fully financed by Lunden’s own funds and thereby brings new investment into the sport without burdening or cannibalising existing prize money and development funds.

With Royal Lunden, a unique opportunity is created to drive growth in the sport, attract new investors, reignite interest among former participants and, not least, bring audiences back to the tracks.

Royal Lunden Series

The Royal Lunden Series consists of two series for fillies born in 2025: a 3-year-old series and a 4-year-old series.

Each series consists of 48 starting-right cards, and a total of 96 Royal Lunden cards are expected to be sold.

The cards are sold according to a prioritised order, with Danish A-trainers and Danish breeders having first priority.

What is a Royal Lunden Card?

A Royal Lunden Card should be understood as the right to participate in the preliminary rounds of each series, for both 3-year-old and 4-year-old fillies.

The card is owned by a customer and is not tied to one specific horse. It gives the owner the opportunity to switch between races with their horses or sell their card in the series to another party.

Royal Lunden Tournament Structure

For both the 3-year-old and 4-year-old series, four preliminary rounds will be held.

• From each round, six cards qualify for the next stage.
• If a horse achieves a placing among the top six, the value of the associated card increases.
• The structure creates a dynamic tournament in which sporting results and card value develop throughout the series.

Example

In the 3-year-old series, the number of cards is reduced from 48 to 24 after the first qualification round.

When the number of remaining cards is reduced, the value of the remaining cards increases accordingly.

Calculating the value based on 80% of the remaining prize pool helps create an attractive value for new investors who wish to enter the tournament at a later stage.

Trading Cards

The concept creates a natural incentive to trade the cards during the series.

If a cardholder believes that the chances of advancing further in the tournament are limited with the current horse, the owner may choose to sell their card.

This may, for example, be relevant for participants who have qualified through the final qualification positions and believe that the competition will become more difficult in the following rounds. By selling the card, a new owner is given the opportunity to enter the series with a horse.

• Direct sale at the official calculated value shown on the website to an appointed buyer.
• Online auction on the website, if the owner believes a higher price can be achieved.

The minimum price for a card is always the official nominal value, unless the card is sold through the auction page.

Eligibility to Start

To be eligible to compete for the total prize pool of approximately DKK 4,000,000, the filly must meet the following requirements:

• Be born in 2025.
• Be bred in Denmark by a Danish breeder, regardless of nationality.
• Be bred abroad but registered as Danish.
• Be purchased and imported into Denmark no later than 31 December 2026, regardless of nationality. This rule applies only in the event that any cards remain unsold after Phase 3. Please see the Terms and Conditions.

For horses in the latter category, they must remain in Danish training and continue to be registered as Danish imports throughout the entire period in order to maintain their eligibility to start in Royal Lunden.

The rules will be assessed on an ongoing basis from year to year. However, due to declining birth rates, it is not expected that the sport will be able to provide the desired number of foals and starting slots in the future.
